Poetry Contest

Since 1984, The Poetry Forum at Larry's has presented the best Columbus and regional poets in featured readings followed by open mike readings from the first Monday in October through mid-May. In the open readings, audience members may present their own work or that of other poets,  2 poems or five minutes (whichever is shorter).

Eight local poets work together to recommend readers, schedule and promote the series, and work with other literary and arts groups to make poetry  a vibrant part of central Ohio's cultural life.  From performance and street poets to widely published academics to poetry ensembles, The Poetry Forum offers an eclectic range of wordsmiths and a receptive audience for anyone who wants to pass the word.

Since 1985, the Ohio Arts Council has provided matching grant funds to support donations collected at each reading. Donations to the weekly passing of the hat give donors a chance at the Forum's book raffle. A book of poetry is provided each week by Half Price Books.    --Steve Abbott
